I un commanded by My Lords Comissioners of

the Admiralty to transmit for the information of the

Army Council a copy of a telegram No.475 of the 3rd

October from the Comander-in-Chief China Station,

regarding the request of shipping firms at Hong Kong

and Singapore for ships on certain routes to be

provided with armed guards for protection againet

pirates and to request that They may be favoured with

the views of the Aray Council as to detailing units

from the military garrisons at Hong Kong and Singapore

for this duty.

2.

Copies of this letter, with anclosure are being

sent to Foreign Office and Colonial Office.
